“Wake for Susan” and “A Drowning Incident”, originally published in 1959 and 1960 in the college review The Phoenix under the name C.J. McCarthy, are among the rarest and most hard to find items in the McCarthy canon. I was able to locate just one set in private hands.
They are now brought back into print by Withnail Books, a bookseller located in Penrith, England. The limited edition consists of two attractive softcover booklets of 20 and 16 pages, published in just 150 hand-numbered sets.
They were available for ordering on August 24, 2024, and sold out in the same day. Only one set has appeared on the web since then and sold quickly for $50.
