Limited edition, numbered issue, one of 250 copies this being copy ..… Hardcover, 23.5 x 16 cm, 241 numbered pages. Publisher’s beige rough Japanese cloth with print of the The Road engraving by Richard Wagener inset into front cover. Brown leather spine lettered in bronze. Housed in a beige cloth and brown leather covered slipcase, without dustjacket as issued. Frontispiece has the wood engraving “The Road” by Richard Wagener. Introduction by Joyce Carol Oates. Seven illustrations by Ryan Pancoast. Signed by Oates, Pancoast and Wagener at a colophon page at the end of text pages. Laid in are promotional bookmark, card and a broadside of 25 x 17.7 cm, reproducing a novel’s paragraph and dated “MMXX”.

CONDITION:fine in fine slipcase. Promotional material near fine. 

PROVENANCE:purchased from the dealer Danielle Mielcarek in 2021.

Published November 13, 2019, in a print run of 250 copies at $395. 


Suntup Press also produced a lettered issue of this edition, in 26 copies. 

A 4” x 6” postcard and a UV coated 2” x 8” bookmark were shipped with every pre-order. Three pre-orders were selected at random and the winners received a The Road engraving letterpress print, signed by Richard Wagener. 

COMPLIMENTARY / OUT OF NUMBER COPIES does exist. The exact number is unknown but following the publisher, Suntup Press usually produces 10-15 copies of THEM.

COLLECTING TOPICS: a scarce and sought after edition. Rare Book Hub lists no copies at auction. At the end of 2019 copies sold in a range of $600-800. In April 2024 there were two copies listed on the web, obtainable for $1800 and $2000. Copies at a lightly lower prices could be found though. In April 2026 no copies were offered on Abebooks.
