First Folio edition, first printing, with “First printing 2021” on the copyright page. Hardcover, 22.9 x 15.2 cm, 183 numbered pages. Publisher’s red, black, and gray cloth with screen-printed pictorial boards, lettered in gray and white. Red endpapers. Cover illustration by Gérard DuBois, who also provided the black-and-white illustration on the title page and six color illustrations throughout the book. Afterword by Michael Chabon. Housed in the publisher’s plain gray paper-covered slipcase, wrapped in protective glassine. Issued without a dust jacket.

CONDITION: new in a new slipcase; lightly creased glassine.

Published on March 10, 2021, at £49.95, in a print run of 2,500 copies.


According to the publisher’s catalog, The Road is among the most requested titles in Folio Society reader surveys. The text of this edition follows that of the 2019 Picador edition, with minor emendations.

Gérard DuBois is a prominent illustrator who has received numerous awards for his work. He won the Moira Gemmill Illustrator of the Year Prize in 2022 at the V&A Illustration Awards for The Road.

LATER PRINTINGS: In the year of publication, the book went into a second printing of 2,000 copies, marked “Second printing 2021” on the copyright page. A further printing of 2,000 copies followed in 2023, with “Third printing 2023” stated on the copyright page.
