CONDITION:a near fine, superior copy.
PROVENANCE: I purchased this copy from Cat’s Cradle Books back in 2008 for just $20.
Published in Fall, 1984, at $10, in a print run between 3,000 and 5,000 copies.
This is not the first appearance of Blood Meridian, as it was preceded by the excerpts on TriQuarterly and on Westward, the Sunday supplement of The Dallas Times Herald.
The source of the first printing is Daniel Halpern, Antaeus’ and Ecco Press’ publisher.
In March 1984, McCarthy and Bertha Krantz, one of his editor at Random House, chose two possible excerpts to be published on Antaeus. On March 30, Krantz wrote to Dan Halpern, who made the final choìce.
COLLECTING TOPICS: un uncommon magazine, with prices around $80-120. I found no trace of genuine signed or inscribed copies appeared in the market.
