Not just one, but two McCarthy’s biographies are expected to be published in 2025. Laurence Gonzales, author of best sellers like “Deep Survival: Who Lives, Who Dies and Why” and “Flight 232” and Mccarthy’s friend at Santa Fe Institute, is working on another biography which want to be “about Cormac as a person more than the literary giant he was”. On the other side, Tracy Daugherty, author of massive biographies of Jospeh Heller, Joan Didion and Larry McMurtry, has signed a contract on December, 2023 with St Martin’s Press to write a comprehensive account of the author of Blood Meridian life.

when are they released?
Hello, it is not sure yet. I believe that the biographers, Laurence Gonzales and Tracy Dougherty, wait for the chance to study the new McCarthy’s papers and letters recently acquired by The University of Texas before ending their work. The papers should be available for scholars in late Fall.
Surely these won’t be published this year if these writers will only have access to CM’s papers this fall?
Sorry for the delay in answering. You are right, both the biographies should be published next year. Notice though, that Lawrence Gonzales could have had access to McCarthy papers before they were acquired and made available by the University of Texas, through the Mc>Carthy estate. In fact, he told me that his work is almost done.
I can’t wait to read it!
Which one.
