First Italian edition, first printing with complete numberlines from “0 to 6” and from “95 to 99” and “Stampato nel mese di settembre 1995” on a colophon page bound after the content pages at the end of the book. Hardcover, 22.7 x 14.3 cm, 370 numbered pages. Publisher’s original greenish grey cloth lettered in black on spine. Photographic dust-jacket with white back cover and flaps lettered in black. The front panel features the photo “Zabriskie Point Death Valley, 1947” by Edward Weston. Price of “Lire 32000” on the back panel. Cellophane cover for shipping still present. Translation by Rossella Bernascone and Andrea Carosso.

CONDITION: a near fine book in a near fine dustjacket.

Published October 9, 1995 in a first print run of 12,000 copies.   


This is the first McCarthy’s title published by Einaudi. It was preceded by Cavalli Selvaggi (All the Pretty Horses) issued two years before by Guida. Up to September 20, 2023 it has gone in a second hardcover printing and has sold 9,648 copies.
