Excerpt in Men’s Journal, Volume 7, Number 4, May 1998. Softcover, 27.6 x 23.1 cm, 168 numbered pages. The nine pages excerpt from Cities of the Plain is on pages 91-96 and 156-158.

Inscribed by McCarthy in blue ball-point pen to his friend and collector Philip Murray on the first page of the excerpt: “For Philip / Cormac McCarthy”. 

CONDITION: near fine.

PROVENANCE: from the Murray collection, got from Alex Wochnik of First and Fine.


This advance excerpt precedes the first edition publication by about 25 days. 

This is the only signed or inscribed copy I have ever seen. The only other magazine signed or inscribed by McCarthy I am aware is the copy of Esquire, March 1992, featuring the advance excerpt of All the Pretty Horses.
