First edition, first printing of this anthology with “First Edition” and no mention of further printings on the copyright page. Hardcover, 22.4 x 14.5 cm, 401 numbered pages. Publisher’s orange cloth lettered in black on spine. Orange dust jacket with white flaps, lettered in black and white, designed by Judy Ruehmann. No price mentioned. Pages 293-299 reprint “Bounty”, an excerpt from The Orchard Keeper, appeared earlier in The Yale Review.

CONDITION: near fine in a near fine dustjacket.

PROVENANCE: purchased from Boston Book Warehouse in 2009.


This anthology had a second edition in paperback in 1987.

COLLECTING TOPICS: The first edition is uncommon with just two copies, in poor condition, listed on the web in the past three years.
