Uncorrected proof of the first edition, second state. Softcover, 21 x 13.6, 297 numbered pages. Beige wrappers lettered in black on the spine and front cover. The front panel reads “Volume One of A Border Trilogy” but features the “A” corrected in “The” by hand in a black marker. Tentative publication date is “MAY 1992” without the “4” added by hand. Complimentary card signed by McCarthy editor at Knopf Gary Fisketjon as “Gary”.
CONDITION: near fine.
PROVENANCE: purchased from Ken Lopez in 2009.
Issued between January and April, 1992, in 750 copies (including all four states).
This is one of about 50 copies Fisketjon asked to send them to friends, writers and reviewer. Woolmer mentions also copies of the second state with “The” changed not in felt pen but in pencil. I haven’t seen any of them though.
