First English and first hardcover edition, first printing with full number line on the copyright page (“1 3 5 7 9 8 6 4 2”). Hardcover, 20.5 x 13.6 cm, 142 numbered pages. Publisher’s black cloth lettered in gilt on the spine. In the olive green, gold and white graphic dustjacket by David Pearson, lettered in gold, white, olive green and black. The front panel features a praise by The Chicago Tribune (already used in the first American edition); the back panel features the same praise which will appear three years later on The Counselor first English edition dust jacket: two for Cormac McCarthy by Daily Telegraph and Esquire, three for The Road by Andrew O’Hagan, Tom Gatti, The Times, and Alan Warner, Guardian. Price of £9.99 on the front flap.

CONDITION: a near fine copy in a near fine dustjacket.

Published on May, 7,  2010, at £9.99, in a first print run of 10,046 copies.                                                                     


COLLECTING TOPICS: unsigned copies are relatively common and can be found at $80-100. 

I am aware of only one signed or inscribed copy offered in the market. It was listed by an American bookseller on July, 2023, for $2,800, soon after McCarthy’s death. The signature left some doubts though and no provenance was provided. As of December 2025 the book was still unsold.
